Perfecting the Art of Test Automation for Agile Projects

Navneesh Garg, CEO, Adactin Group

Speaker Bio

Topic Abstract

Working in the time box of a scrum sprint does present some challenges - especially if your team is building a product from scratch. Sprint after sprint you have to add new features and ensure that whatever you built previously continues to work. Having an automated testing framework, which takes care of both system and integration tests, adds a lot of firepower to such a team. But automation in Agile environment presents its own challenges. As part of this presentation we will understand common challenges for automation in agile projects, what to automate, approach for agile automation and how to perfect the art of automation in agile environment. We will present some real life case-studies and how applying these techniques allowed organizations to consistently add new features to the product at a very brisk pace and has proven to be crucial in finding and fixing critical issues we faced as a result of regression.

14:00 - 14:50

Fishbowl - Agile Testing, Test Automation & BDD

Speakers and Audience

About Fishbowl

In a fishbowl, any member of the audience can, at any time, occupy the empty panel chair and join the fishbowl. When this happens, an existing member of the fishbowl will voluntarily leave the fishbowl and free a chair. The discussion will continue with participants frequently entering and leaving the fishbowl. The topic of the discussion can be decided at the time of joining the fishbowl.

16:05 - 17:00

Building Security into an Agile/DevOps environment

Tom Crampton, Managing Director, Trusted Impact & Corne Kloppers, DevOps Automation Manager, PlanIT

Speaker Bio

Corné Kloppers is the DevOps Automation Delivery Manager at PlanIT, a leader in Quality Assurance, providing organisations around the world with best-in- class software testing consultancy to ensure project success.

Speaker Bio

Tom Crampton is the Managing Director of TrustedImpact, a specialised consulting firm focused exclusively in cyber security. Overall, Tom has nearly 30 years of international management consulting, technology and P&L business leadership experience working successfully with organisations across Asia, North America, Europe, and Australia.

Topic Abstract

Yesterday’s traditional SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) saw quality assurance and security as discrete (often final) steps in a sequential development cycle. It is our experience that 9 out of 10 times, a client seeks to companies have a new system ‘tested’ at the completion of a discrete development process. Only to find they have built in performance issues and security vulnerabilities, and then must postpone the ‘go live’ date to resolve these issues. The result? Blown budget estimates and missed customer expectations.

Industry pundits are calling Agile / DevOps that “next great IT movement”. Indeed, streamlining the development process by combining multiple steps into one integrated single, automated process holds great promise. However, with Agile / DevOps, testing (both assurance and security) can no longer be viewed as a ‘project’ to initiate at the end of development, but must be tightly interwoven into the Agile / DevOps integrated automated process. Either build it into the process or get it wrong and see all of your Agile / DevOps improvements fly out the door (with your customers).
