In the startup world, unicorns and their billion-dollar valuations used to be everything. Today, the investment world recognizes that category kings are more profitable and growth-oriented in the long run. In fact, for all venture-backed tech startups between 2000 to 2015, category kings earned 76% of the market capitalization of their entire market category. But what is a category king, and how do you build one? It starts with the brand. In this talk, I’ll review the keys to the category kingdom including: > The value of being “different” vs. “better.” > How to build your brand for king-hood. > How to royally tell your brand story. > Why you need lightning to strike somewhere along the way. You’ll leave with a roadmap to not just take over your category but to completely redefine it.
