I have been in the QA industry for over 20 years and have seen the transition to automation. Throughout my own career, I didn’t keep up with the trends, why should I? There would always be the need for manual testers. Well in the Spring of 2017, I would be reminded that the world of QA had changed, and I did not keep up. Fall of 2017, I became the Assistant Manager of QA and I vowed to empower my team and give the opportunities to take a group of manual testers and help them learn automation. My team had to learn the difference between CSS, xPath and data driven testing. My job was to find them a tool that they could use, since none of them had a coding background. So, I researched different frameworks like Selenium, CodedUI, HPE UFT, TestComplete and so on. I came up with a tool called Katalon, a codeless Selenium Tool that used Selenium and Groovy in the background. Katalon empowered my team to start their journey into Automation. I would like to speak about this transition and how it helped a group of insecure manual tester, build their confidence in automation.
