In today’s world of Digitization, we often come across the debate of RPA(Robotic Process Automation) being similar to Test Automation and how RPA is different than Test Automation. My intention here is to take a deep dive and understand how they are used in the respective fields and how they can be leveraged to address organization-wide strategies. These technologies have some strong overlap in terms of automation based on repetitive, consistent, rule-based processes and are much diverse when it comes to catering specific audiences, process optimization, and improvement. The biggest challenge for any organization today is to understand and leverage RPA & Test Automation in their best capacity. The challenges are immense here: Size of the organization, underlying applications to automate, licensing cost of tools, tools already in use for automation, the skill set of the employees. It is imperative to ditch the script by infusing RPA and Test Automation to complement each other. Before heavily investing with various different tools available in the market, try to work and utilize what you have. Build out a strong base and see the value capture in different possible ways from process re-engineering, process optimization, time utilization, reducing the usage of the licensed tools.
