TEST AUTOMATION SUMMIT  | PHILADELPHIA – October 24, 2023

SPEAKERS

TODD SOISSON – IT Vice President, Business Experience, Tokio Marine North America Services

IT’S STILL ABOUT THE PEOPLE. LEAD YOUR TEAM TO SUCCESS.

While automation and AI are driving headlines in software testing and IT in general, thoughtful practitioners know that what you automate is only as good as the underlying material. Having curious and thoughtful testers on your staff is better than having average testers with the best tools. When you combine top-tier talent with today’s tools, you can achieve “Best in Class” results. This talk will focus on talent. What makes a good tester? Can I identify a good tester in an interview? How can I “upskill” my current staff? With each budget dollar being harder and harder to come by, inspiring your team to be better tomorrow than they are today with minimal cost is a challenge. Working smarter as opposed to longer or harder is an obtainable goal. He will share what has worked for him to build a team of motivated, collaborative testers. Better automation results will be a by-product of challenging the people driving the tools in the right way.

OPERATIONAL ASPECTS OF TESTING

There is a functional aspect to testing where you plan what needs to be done to cover various use cases for testing a feature or functionality related to the same. Then there is an operational aspect to it where one needs to select and plan automation; regression; framework/s tooling; CICD implementation; infrastructure; governance; access; licensing and so on to help support testing needs at the organizational level. He has been working in this field for the past couple of years where he leads digital transformation at Boomi to prepare our org for growth and the future. During this journey, he did a lot of good work in this area and learned and accomplished a lot and still trying to walk the path of success to take it next level. He feels this topic relates to some of the ideas shared here for talks and could be valuable for folks to participate.

AUTOMATION IMPLEMENTED IN A FINTECH PLATFORM (Co-Presenting with Monisha Nikhil)

We wish to cover various modes of automated testing solutions implemented in a FinTech platform. We have automated various modes of testing such as functionality, visual, cross-browser/OS, and accessibility testing using various tools. An optimal solution that best works for all in an organization would only be achieved after multiple iterations and feedback from various stakeholders.

Also, we will detail how we can build an ideal solution and key success factors for a resilient automation framework as well as reporting. Conversing on these ideas would be a great forum for all to gain an understanding on the solutions built for various testing requirements.

COMPREHENSIVE API TEST AUTOMATION: FROM INTRODUCTION TO EXPERTISE

Sachin, at the “Comprehensive API Test Automation: From Introduction to Expertise” conference, he will take you on a journey through the world of API testing automation development. Whether you’re a beginner, junior to mid-level SDET or a senior SDET/Developer, this event has something for everyone.

  • Introduction to API Testing and Development with Postman

For beginners, he will kick off with an insightful introduction to APIs and how to effectively test and develop them using the popular tool, Postman. Learn the basics of API testing, including how to structure requests, add assertions, and manage authorizations. This session is designed to provide a solid foundation for those new to the world of APIs.

  • Advancing Skills with RestAssured and Hamcrest

For junior to mid-level SDETs, he will dive deeper into API testing techniques by exploring the RestAssured library and the powerful Hamcrest assertions library. Discover how to streamline your testing processes, write more complex assertions, and gain confidence in your API testing abilities.

  • Mastering API Testing: Analyzing Spring Code and Data Class Utilization

For senior SDETs and Developers aiming to take their API testing skills to the next level, this session is a must-attend. Uncover the secrets of analyzing Spring code to gain insights into API behavior. Learn how to harness the potential of data class objects to create sophisticated request bodies and validate complex response structures. Elevate your API testing expertise and become proficient in dissecting and optimizing API interactions.

LEVERAGING ML TO FIND VALUE IN YOUR AUTOMATED TESTS

Today’s modern development disciplines — whether Agile, Continuous Integration (CI), or Continuous Delivery (CD) — have completely transformed how teams develop and deliver applications faster. But in order to compete in today’s fast-paced digital economy, companies must also test faster, and test continuously. Tracking test results of thousands of tests for hundreds of runs, triggered by code changes. But what if we can leverage Machine Learning to find value in automated tests and reduce the time of result analysis?

In this presentation, he will share details about open open-sourced AI-powered test-automation dashboard — ReportPortal.io. Use case of machine learning in test automation log processing and test fail categorization. With the benefits of real-time reporting from multiplied, distributed, or remote environments. You will learn how to start on your project and organize dashboards, and metrics tracking. Leverage the API of the tool for integration with your CI tools like Jenkins. Make a step to continue testing, bringing in Security and Performance testing results in one single entry point of testing results for your team.

SOFTWARE QUALITY AND TESTING BASED ON END USER EXPERIENCE (EUX)

The words “quality” and “testing” are broad and loosely used words when developers and testers are testing an application or a business process flow. We can attain approval in functional and performance testing but if it doesn’t gain a positive end-user adoption then what was gained? This session will dive into the different aspects of testing what quality really means when looked at from different angles and the adoption of testing it from an End User’s perspective.
