TESTING AI SYSTEMS: BEYOND ACCURACY

Companies have lost millions because they didn't have proper MLOps or testing processes. They relied on the training metrics, like accuracy, but Software Quality goes beyond that. I will cover different testing types, techniques, and concepts that you can apply to make high-quality ML Systems.

DATA TESTING AUTOMATION FOR BIG DATA AND AI: A NEW FRONTIER IN QA

The rise of AI and big data initiatives like cloud migrations, data lakes, warehouses, pipelines, and BI/CRM systems is pushing businesses to manage vast troves of data. These complex projects, often characterized by terabytes of data and background processes, pose unique challenges for traditional QA automation tools primarily designed for user interfaces (UI).The Opportunity: While application testing automation is well-established, a critical gap exists – a lack of specialized data testing tools and expertise. This gap presents a significant opportunity to leverage data testing automation.

LEADING THE QUALITY (R)EVOLUTION

In the ever evolving landscape of modern business and our technology enterprises that support it, the role of quality and testing has never been more critical and yet, companies are investing less in quality / testing activities and strategies and approaches commonly fall short in addressing the dynamic challenges facing delivery teams today.

This talk will draw parallels between the phases of a revolution and the transformative journey that is needed in the software testing and quality domain. We will explore several key topics:

  • Acknowledging the Status Quo
  • Catalysts for Change
  • Strategic Visioning
  • Reinventing Strategies and Approaches
  • Leading the Charge and Advocating for Change
  • Embracing Continuous Evolution

THE AI YOU SEE MAY BE THE AI THAT DECEIVES YOU

We have been told for years, warned even, to be careful with AI and what it can do to us. Yet, we keep pushing forward, testing out new models and algorithms. We applaud the incredible feats of achievement, and although we know they could be used for evil, we can’t get enough. More likes, comments and subscribers are taking place with each new company that comes along with a better GenAI model. And just when we think we are seeing the changes, that is when the AI deceives us into believing what we are seeing and what we are hearing. The problem is just when we think we understand it, this is when the AI proves it has control of our thoughts, actions and beliefs. Join Kevin as he demonstrates the deceptive and awesome power of AI sitting at our fingertips, and provides the rails we may not want, but that we need to prevent AI from controlling our very societies.

BE A DEVELOPER WHO TESTS

Whether you're a developer or a tester, the skills and experience required to get the job done have more and more overlap than ever before. Fewer organizations are hiring developers who can't test. Fewer organizations are hiring testers who can't write code. At the same time, we each bring unique perspectives, experience, and attitudes towards building software. Companies that navigate this well will have happy productive teams --- and those that don't will ship poor quality software. In this session, Chris Harbert, host of the Developers Who Test podcast, will share:

  • Why This Trend is Happening
  • What We Can Do to Navigate It
  • How To Make (or not make) This Transition
  • The Hazards of Poor Implementation
  • Building Stronger, Cross-functional Software Teams

LESSONS LEARNED IN QUICKLY BUILDING A SCALABLE AND MAINTAINABLE AUTOMATION FRAMEWORK FROM SCRATCH

Several years ago, I was the new guy starting a new job. As the new guy, I was initially tasked with the mind-numbing task of verifying that data in reports matched expected data in a spreadsheet. This task took three weeks to complete manually. I vowed I would never do that manually again, so the next time around, I automated the process in two weeks using an open source automation tool he had never used before, all while laying the foundation for an automation framework that now has over 90 contributors across 12 product lines.

LETS TALK QUALITY WITH OUR TEAMS

As SDETS/QA Engineers we are the owner of quality within our teams. What are some ways we can engage our teams in helping to take on the ownership or at least the buy in or quality release gates and standards.
