BUILDING A QUALITY ENGINEERING CHAPTER: PITFALLS TO AVOID AND BEST PRACTICES TO FOLLOW

Working in a completely Agile environment is a very rewarding experience, but how can we share best practices and learnings from the several Quality Engineers spread across several squads and tribes? Build a Community, a Chapter of Practice. Not only to share experiences but also to engage the QA, Architects, and Developers into a common goal: the whole team-based approach toward quality.

In this talk, Larissa will explain what a Chapter is, why it is important, and share her experience building a Quality Engineering practice into a completely Agile environment. She will detail how the idea began, how she engaged the Quality Engineers and Architects completely remote due to the pandemic, how the first Chapter and room started until getting momentum, and how to keep that momentum going. She will also talk about how engagement and sharing experiences improved the quality of the work the squads were delivering, and how common concepts and shared experiments were able to increase the speed of ramp-up for new squads.

After the talk, the audience will understand better what a Chapter is and have guidance on how to start it, avoiding the known pitfalls and focus on what works best for their context through engagement and technical excellence.

The scaleup phase is when a company is raising investment to fund their growth. It’s typically the quickest and most significant stage of growth, and one that can bring the most challenges. The most part of Scale-Ups has achieved growth of 20% or more in either employment or turnover year on year for at least two years.

At this scenario, I’m going to present 2 models to Scale Quality and Testing around the team in a healthy way.

On the second model, we are going to see how to select and implement tools that can increase the team’s collaboration and can be integrated on the workflows, using GitHub actions, to increase knowledge around some kind of specific testing and make the developers to be more involved on improve quality aspects from the web applications and micro services APIs.
