Deborah Hodges is the founder, president, and principal of Golden Square, launched in 2001, creative branding and marketing consultancy providing branding, communications and marketing services that optimize (outcomes effectiveness) to organizations. As strategist, blogger, interdisciplinary communications specialist, she has increased ROI and engaged people for numerous organizations. Hodges has served as the marketing director for five major firms(ENR-rated), executive director of the Construction Writers Association; vice president in client relations, and other senior leadership positions in professional services firms in the A/E/C industry. Her experience includes the big three-architecture, engineering and construction management firms-Big A, small A, big E and small E, and big C. She is the past president of SMPS Chicago-serving a back-back double presidency. She is known for her ability to build high-level relationships with clients and long-term relationships. Hodges has been running her own creative agency for the past ten years. She has provided over 2,000 hours to nonprofit organizations pro bono. Her creative services and various marcom experience includes branding and project management roles with United Way, Community Counseling Centers of Chicago(C4), DiscoverE, American Hospital Association-SHSMD, Chicago Engineers’ Foundation, Mary Crane Center, American College of Healthcare Executives, Society of Marketing Professional Services, and more. Her top brand clients includes Walgreens(Top 50 Company), AFLAC, Church Mutual Insurance, and others involving creative branding, communications and marketing management. Previously, prior to launching Golden Square, she has worked with Bovis Lend Lease, OWP/P (Cannon Design), Nova Environmental Services, Plunkett Raysich Architects, PSI, RTKL, Walker Parking Consultants and other firms in leading roles in marketing and business development for various markets: commercial, healthcare, higher education, government, legal, municipal, retail, and transportation. She held titles such as vice president, marketing director, vice president of client relations, regional vice president, senior business development manager, and project manager. Prior to opening her own full-time marketing consultancy in 2008, Golden Square, she led business development functions including developing and maintaining client relationships focusing on long-term, large scale and high profile projects and developing progressive marketing and communications departments. She has a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication from North Central College and a master’s degree in Business Administration and Communications with a focus in marketing from De Paul University. Ms. Hodges is a certified administrator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ® from CPP. Ms. Hodges is adjunct faculty at DePaul University teaching in the field of communications. Hodges has served on several executive boards such as Chicago Health Executives Forum, Society of Marketing Professional Services, National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives, Regents Advisory Council-ACHE and others. She held titles such as president, education director, marketing director, public relations the director, and other senior leadership roles. She is currently serving on the SMPS-EAP and the Pinnacle Awards Committee for the Heartland Regional Conference. She is a Past President, CHEF, largest chapter in U.S. and a Past President, SMPS Chicago. In 2001, Ms. Hodges was awarded an 18-month research grant from the SMPS National Foundation to study behavior in marketing and business development. These efforts were followed by establishing the first SMPS National Marketing Mentoring Committee. She served on the mentoring committee for three years and authored several articles related to impression management, business development, marketing, mentoring and building trust in client and team relationships. She started the first mentoring program for SMPS Chicago and worked with other chapters in launching their mentoring programs. In 2003, Ms. Hodges was a nominee for a Marketing Achievement Award with the Society of Marketing Professional Services (over 6000 members). In 2008, Ms. Hodges was awarded a Service Award by the American College of Healthcare Executives (over 35,000 members) for her distinguished service on the National Membership Committee. In 2010, she was recognized with a Service Award by the American College of Healthcare Executives for her contribution and leadership as the chapter president, developing the chapter awards program, broadening the education programs, and successfully leading the final efforts of the Chicago chapter (1800 executives) to become a fully chartered entity of the ACHE. In 2013, Ms. Hodges was member of the Membership Committee that received a Star Award from the American Bar Association for their successful efforts in membership recruitment and retention. She served as the liaison and led the Membership Committee in GPSolo (over 20,000 members). In 2013, Ms. Hodges was a member of the Student Law Committee that received a Star Award from the American Bar Association for community outreach and education efforts. In 2015, she launched webinars to share effective information for more successful campaigns and ways to measure, gain client/team satisfaction and predict success.
